About the Studio

Piano Curriculum

My curriculum varies with individual needs, but all is based on a solid foundation in sight-reading, rhythm mastery, musical expression, ear training, and classical piano technique.

As these elements are developed, students explore a wide range of literature including the classical repertoire, music of other cultures, and American popular music styles.

Classical repertoire includes the music of the world's great composers from the Baroque to Contemporary.

American Popular piano repertoire includes the many jazz idioms, Latin dance rythyms we have incorporated into our culture, ballad styles, Broadway and movie music, and - yes - even rock styles.

Everyone has the opportunity to compose, and, in conjunction with the American popular piano repertoire, to study the art of improvisation.  Each student can play his/her improvised piece with recorded emsemble "back-up". This is a wonderful creative process and great fun!!!

Students learn basic music theory and relevant Western music history. Everyone studies performance preparation.

Every student has his/her favorite styles and my extensive music library has something for everyone.
We work hard, laugh alot, and feel the joy of learning a beautiful piece of music.
